UK Food shortage

From late April, the UK is experiencing a food shortage, or not? There appears to be a food shortage because supermarkets have many gaps in the empty shelves, but official explanations say that this is not due to a food shortage, it's due to a lorry driver shortage and supply chain problems, due to BREXIT and  COVID-19 -! Well, the lorry driver shortage makes sense, Boris asked thousands of foreign drivers to leave the UK because of BREXIT and hos desire for independence, however this leaves us short of around 115,000 lorry drivers, because they are considered "unskilled", can Boris drive a HGV? I doubt it

According to the BBC figures, there are around 550,000 qualified HGV drivers living in the UK, (many of them got their qualification when leaving the army, to get them back into civilian life), BUT as they are so undervalued, over worked, persecuted by authorities and underpaid they have chosen not to work as a lorry driver

Had we not had BREXIT there would be plenty more HGV drivers, and far less supply chain problems, import tax, border delays etc

What about COVID-19 ? This was the other excuse given for empty food shelves, This was maybe true in March 2020 when the UK ran out of toilet paper, but, virtually all countries have suffered significantly during the pandemic, but they don't have empty shelves, the shelves are full, and the stock is fresh, after all, it's a business, they want/need stock on shelves, so I don't see how it's anything to do with the UK's record-breaking COVID-19 cases, unless of course you include the pingdemic forcing people to quarantine, even if they don't have the virus, or even symptoms
